Portrait of Ilse Moreau

Ilse Moreau

Throws stoneware vessels shaped like stones the river has worn smooth.

About Ilse

Ilse Moreau trained as a furniture maker before she moved to clay. She throws and carves stoneware in a shared studio off Metropolitan Avenue and fires it in a wood kiln upstate twice a year. Ash from the firing settles on each piece, so no two glazes ever come out the same.

Ilse’s coffee

River Stone

Huehuetenango, Guatemala · Natural · Medium dark roast · Toasted almond, Cocoa nib, Orange peel

An earthy, rounded coffee for pots fired in wood and ash. It tastes best from a heavy cup, which is how Ilse drinks it.
